I woke up this morning to find that my water pump has stopped working. the pump itself is only a couple months old and I'm sure I'll be able to return it. The problem, however, is I'm at work now and my sump isn't running. I do have a canister filter running but I'm not sure how long the system will hold up. How long do you think I'll have to replace the pump before I lose everything?

Short term, i dont think you have a lot to worry about....i would certainly try and get the faulty pumped swapped ASAP though....

I'd say your tank now resembles one that doesn't have a sump! As long as your filter is running and your powerheads are still going I'd say you'd be alright for a couple of days but obviously the sooner the better to put your mind at rest. The only thing I would say (only because I've forgotten myself in the past) is that if your heater is in the sump, don't forget to move it to the display tank.

Thank you for the quick responses. I was losing my mind over here. Does it make a difference that my protein skimmer isn't working either b/c it sits in the sump?

I had a tank for 3 years with no skimmer and no sump, so no I don't see any issues for the short term. My smaller tank still doesn't have a skimmer or a sump.
