Hello-
Recently while running tap water through my new D.I. cartridge, I noticed a kind of rubbery smell. Then I let the water sit for a day and there was a hint of dark sediment on the bottom of the pail.
Is this some of the resin coming through the filter? Do you think it's safe to use? I have only run a few gallons through this cartridge so it is not old--

thanks,
Jano

You are supposed to run them for about 10gals minimum before using them. And especially run water thru your carbon block for 5 to ten gallons before letting that water get to your membrane. This is because tons of carbon fines come out of it initially. Looking to clog your membrane. Also you must never let them go dry. You should use them regularly or things will grow in them. This is why I always say you should plumb them into your kitchen sink and use them daily for drinking and cooking (RO only) and oh-by-the-way they work great for your fish too..

Bacterial films develop in them no matter what you do--running daily or not. The ones at the shop run 24/7 and all cartridges are slimy to the touch.
