Yesterday when i was walking by my tank and quickly noticed that my blue leg hermit crab had one of my orange chromis in a death grip by the tail and was killing it.
I feed them frozen brine shrimp daily and the live rock has plenty of misc. algae and goodies to munch on.
What would make my crab do this?

For the fish to be in this situation, then the first would have too of been virtually dead and near enough lifeless for a hermit crab to have hold of it. What you witnessed was a hermit doing its job, one of cleanup...

you should not be feeding them only brine shrimp. brine has no nutritional value so switch it up with mysis...it must of been dead

Ditto on the dying fish! Hermits are slow as snails and to catch a normal swimming fish would be very hard to do.

Due to the lack of nutritional value of brine shrimp, i look upon on this food as a kind of treat, rather than part of daily feeding....

Some author described them as "reef terrorists". They are lazy little villains.
Mine, that is Herman, eats even cyanobacteria when he's hungry, but lays lazy on the sand doing nothing for a day or two when I fed him.
To get him doing his job of eating algae you need to kick him *** and there has to be no other food around.

hermits personalities differ greatly, The nastiest BL I've had actualyl would go around to the others, rip them out of the shells, and kill them. He did this to about 4, and when I caught him in the act, he quickly was transferred for processing to my octopus tank.
