Hey all, been a while but I have another question for all your wisdom:
I landed a bare 55G with black stand and canopy for freebies, just had to carry it. The center plastic brace is broken clean out. the tank is in otherwise good shape, but im curious how it broke out if everything is intact.

Has anyone ever gone about re-bracing a 55g like this? Im fairly handy with metal and could cut a piece to fit and brace around the rim, but would that just put stress on those two points? I really dont want 55 gallons of fishy water on my floor (fish might not like it either) if you catch my drift.

Thoughts?

what I would do is find a small piece of PVC pipe, cut it to where it just barely fits snugly inside of the rim, then take a piece of fine grit sandpaper ruff the underside of the plastic rim so that the epoxy will take hold but make sure that it is up and secure enough first so that your tank will still set on the frame, I have found that PVC pipe is very strong in this sense and should prove to work well

Honestly, I'd just scrape up some cash and buy a new stand. They're not terribly expensive when you consider what you're risking otherwise. I really don't want to think about 55g of water on my floor. Gives me nightmares just picturing it.

i think he meant the piece that goes at the top of the aquarium not the stand.

you can order a new top brace for a 55 gallon aquarium from www.thatfishplace.com
Search "55 frame" or call them. I ordred one I think it was about 17.99 + shipping.
