Now that I have your attention, I need some feedback from the AC community. I have recently purchased a 55 gallon tank. I have a Penguin 350 and an Emperor 400 for filtration. I already have a 55 Malawi Cichlid tank. I am thinking of starting an Angel tank, as my g/f likes Angels.

Question #1: How many Angels can I house in this tank??? I don't have the dimensions, other than it is rectangular shape.

Question #2: Should I use the lava rock that came with the tank for caves for the Angel(s)??? (There is alot, at least 75 pounds)

Question #3: Is there a particular type that is more tolerant of newbie Angel keepers???

Question #4: Can the Angels eat the sinking pellets I feed to my African Cichlids???

i personally wouldn't keep more than one, unless it was a mated pair. then fill in the rest with small schooling fish and a couple other small cichlids or something. i kept 4 in a 55 and once they started to mature they just beat on each other constantly, even without a true mating pair in the tank. even in the 150g tank i moved them to they still chase and nip sometimes.

i think lava rock would tear at their delicate fins. use something smoother.

avoid albino and pure black, those seem to be the weakest (most inbred). make sure they've been in the store for a while before buying, and ask how many die-offs they've had. the quality of angels is usually dependent upon the health of the entire batch. when i bought mine they had been in the store for 10 days with no deaths, but the owner told me the last two shipments they got all died within a few days and couldn't be sold at all.

sinking pellets, algae wafers, cichlid floating pellets, bloodworms, etc. all good. they tend to need a higher protein content than africans, as angels are mainly carnivores.
