I have a feeling your just gunna tell me its not necessary, and I've been over doing things... but I'm asking anyways.

Before, I would pull out the rocks, move the driftwood, etc, to make sure i got out ALL the waste when i did water changes. If i heavily plant my tank, and put in lots of rocks and wood, that just isn't going to be feasible. So do you just pretend the fish don't poop in the caves?? How often do you tear the rocks apart to get it all clean? 6months? a year? never?

thanks

Fish poop isnt a bad thing for plants.....

I try to rearrange caves etc that trap a lot of stuff. I have many bottom fish I don't want nose deep in waste so I work toward better circulation.

Circulation will help a good canister stay on top of things, but it is quite normal to have some mulm collecting dead spots. I just wave the vac at them to knock the big chunks loose, so they'll get picked up where I can reach them (not too many spots anymore) or hope that the canister will get 'em.

Cory cats are pretty handy for breaking up surface mulm - they help keep it from getting too deep.
