My question is I have a 55G that has 2 flurescent bulbs. One blew out. Do you have to use aquatic bulbs or can I just use regular bulbs. I ask because the aquatic ones from the pet shop are so expensive. I know you would get a beter quality of light from the pet shop ones but I don't really care about that. I am thinking of using a low watt regular one to replace the blown one. What do you guys think??

Do you have live plants? Anyhow, regular bulbs will do - any kind if you don't have live plants. If you do, there are still ones that are in the proper K rating. Sylvania Daylight for one, but there are others... at our Rona (home hardware type store) there is a chart with the different K ratings and a small display showing how each of the different lightings look.

if you're only using the lights to view the fish, any bulb will do.
