ok, so i have some excess algae (as you can see from the pics), and i got a nudi to help me take care of if, and so hopefully i won't have to keep taking hte rock out and pulling the algae off. he's a "blue-spotted" nudibranch, and i was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to care for him or if there was something special i needed to know? i didn't have any luck finding anything on the web, so i thought maybe i'd get lucky and someone on here has had one or has one right now. any advice would be great! thanks in advance!

here are a couple of pics...

Don't know if you read about them on MDlive. http://www.marinedepotlive.com/ps_ViewItem~idproduct~ML0661071-01.html but appears that the only food source they like is Bryopsis algage which you seem to have. The also require high quality water. I will be interested in you experience with the nudi...the only one I have had was a zoa pest and had to go.

if you search blue spotted sea hare you will probably get more info on them.
That algae in the pictures isnt byropsis, but they should eat it. They are pretty much the best algae grazers out there. And as I'm sure you've seen, will leave trails from where they have been. THe problem is, they are sometimes TOO good and usually starve in an aquarium after the algae problem is fixed or just doesnt grow fast enough.
But the real question is, why do you have so much algae in the first place? Are you using RO water? Over feeding/over stocked? Using any type of phosphate removing media? Regular water changes?
PS: awesome pictures :)

I agree with Fishieness about getting to the bottom of why you have algae, but with regards to the nudi, is there any chance that you can take him to an LFS when he's finished as he will likely starve.

I was looking into getting a nudi for my flatworm and my LFS said that if I could find one he would buy it from me when I'd finished with it and rent it out to customers.

yeah, about the algae...i'm not sure. i bought the tank off a guy, so i inherited the problem. i'm using RO/DI water only, and i think he was doing that when i bought it, but i'm afraid he was using tap when the algae started. i'm watching my overfeeding, added some macro to eat up nutrients, added a bag of chemi pure elite (the one that's in a bag with carbon and the phosphate remover stuff), i do about 10-15% water change every saturday, and i'm not overstocked. i'm not even sure what type of algae it is. it starts in tufts, then they all converge for a covering effect. the nudi really hasn't put a dent in at all, and i've had him a little over a week. this algae is like superman...ugh i don't know if i need to get another one (maybe a lettuce or a regular brown sea hare) just to help get it taken care of. and yes, i'll definitely take them back to the lfs if the algae disappears from the tank. i made sure they'd take him back if he ate all the algae. if the tank was bigger i'd get a lawnmower or a tang, but alas, too small. thanks for the advice guys, hopefully i'll be able to get something figured out. i'm sick of having to take the rock out every 3 weeks or so and pull the algae off. and thanks for the compliment, fishiness :)

I know nothing about nudis, but he sure is pretty ... in a space alien sort of way. :)
