I got a few new angelfish yesterday and they seemed to adapt to my tank and get along with everyone fairly well. Except my 2 day old guppy fry, which was a very tasty snack apparently, I am ok with that, I am sick of unintentional breeding anyways. But I digress.
So out of 3 angelfish, only one has issues, it seems to have a small bump on its side with a small white tube looking thing sticking out. Please tell me this fish is going to live? without me having to do surgery or something? He is a neat looking angel.:help:
Here are two pictures, One without the issue circled, mainly because it was the best picture I have ever taken of any of my fish...

It almost looks like he swallowed something and it got stuck in his gill. I dont really know what it is.

He is roughly the size of a silver dollar? I am going to say... 3" from tip of fin to bottom tip of fin.
There is no aggression between the 3 angels at all no. They did manage to eat all my baby guppies, which isnt a problem. I found two of my other new fish (desert gobies) just a few minutes ago to.. they didnt have heads. So I Guess they eat anything that is small enough to fit in their tiny mouths?
I can try to get a closeup through using PS, but thats the closest i could get with the camera zoom with it being clear.
As to something being in its gills, That is much much lower than its gills, thats almost what I was hoping at first, that maybe a guppy was just trying to make its way out lol.
I will see what i can do on the closer view.

looks like some kind of worm or parasite.

OK, Best I could do as a closeup. I am thinking parasite or worm may be possible as well... What do you do about those? This would be the first sickness I have had in a tank... Not too excited about it mind you.

If you think it is somekind of infection or parasite, you should move the angel to a QT tank. Do you have another tank that you can use?

Well, Unfortunately I only have one extra tank, which it just so happens I moved the guppy babies that I did not want to die into... So.. either I move, umm, 30 or so fry, or angel has one huge freaking buffet if I put him into there....

You could get a couple of net breeders and put all of the healthy fish in one tank.

Kaluden, your case seems similar to this one.

if this is a parasite..treat the tank..do not move the fish to another tank.
with parasites the entire tank can be infested.
it does appear to be some sort of parasite. possibly an anchor worm or hook worm. there are not a lot of them we commonly see that will attach then bury themselves under the skin.
luckily they can be ttreated with many over the counter meds(anti parasite)
the question is trying to determine which med would be best.

Allright, Basically most people seem to think it is a parasite....
Does anyone have a website that details fish parasites that i can look at and try to match up to so that I can be one step closer to fixing this?
On the bright side, I got ahold of the guy I bought my fish from, he is more than willing to replace not only this fish, but any other fish that get infected and die. I am not trading this one in though unless I know I cant fix it for sure. It is nice finding someone willing to help out so much with the fish they sell.
I am very appreciative of everyone thats helped with this, since it is my first fish illness all the support is very helpful!

Hi Everyone!
I havent posted here in a long time :)
Anyway I'm the breeder of the fish in question and am a bit concerned myself.
I have a "closed colection" here more than 95% of the fish in my house were born here also I havnt brought in any fish in almost a year.
I spent an hour with a flash light and a looking glass and could not see any issues here.
Checked all 300 or so angels. plus all the other tanks.
The fish guys I talked and sent the pic around to said maybe a cyst I missed that burst.
My fish are strong and heathy the fish should make it through this OK
basicaly the fish didnt have it in the bag or when he let it go he noticed it the next day. If he had the fish say 3-4 days I would replace it and just belive it was his tank that started the infection.
But less than 24hrs I dont know what to think.
What does a corase of paracide C on 1000 gallons?
Again sorry about the guppys I dont feed my fish 3 days before I bag them for a show or auction.(they cant foul the bag water with poo)
I bet they gorged :(

update on the fish:
The white part of whatever has gone away, and the spot is barely swollen out at all. He is still swimming around all happy and actually seems to be the most active of all the fish. I think he is going to make it through allright.
Somefinn, No worries about the guppies, when I saw the babies I pretty much said "Ah crap, more guppies..." so the angels helped me out, I only have 1 10 gal for the fry atm, and its pretty full. Besides, though some people may find it offensive, me and the wife found it fun to watch the angels hunt the 3 day old fry, they try to be very very sneaky.
I will update again when the fish changes or is fully healed. I would personally suggest somefinnfishy for any angels people want, you guys saw the color on that thing. I will post pictures of all the others a bit later on in the week in the pictures section.
Thanks for all the help everybody!

well... New update for this little thing.
The angel seems to be doing much better, the white stuff has gone from the angels side and the bump has gone down to where it is barely noticeable, this is all good. Now for the bad.
What I can only describe as small white pumps (I thought they were bubbles at first) have formed on two of my guppies, I am almost wondering if the white coming out of the angel was some form of semi internal parasite that decided that since it was now in warmer waters needed to spread its eggs or something? I dont know much about parasites so I may be way off base here. One guppy has them bad, she has gone delirious and is swimming somewhat upside down, somewhat vertically. I dont have much optimism of her making it... The other still isnt showing many effects, but has a few small bumps on him. All females in my tank are so lethargic that I was able to stick them inside a breeder in the tank, purely by using my hand... They just let me kinda cup them, pull them up and slip them in, with barely even one twitch. This concerns me.
My corys seem to be doing ok, no marks, My pleco seems ok, no spots that I can tell, but both these fish are albino... The angels all seem happy... I am... quite honestly pissed at myself that I decided that quarantine was un-needed, I could give excuses why I didnt, but it isnt going to help crap now...
WTF do i kill parasites with? I need help on this as fast as possible, I am not 100% its parasites, but I am thinking it is.
Let me know, please.

i don't think this is something that would have come with the angels, it's just too soon. i think they are simply coincidence. when a fish is living fine all alone and then finds itself chased around all the time by some much bigger and hungry-looking fish, the stress of that could have lowered the immune response and allowed disease or parasites to take hold.
look for products containing Praziquantel

Actually I havent seen the angels so much as move towards a guppy threateningly, and they seem to swim pretty close to eachother a lot.... I suppose stress would still factor in, but I am not a big fan of coincidence...
