I notice with my shrimp that with a darker substrate they get redder. Since you have no substrate, they could be doing just the opposite to blend in with their environment. Also stress can have an effect on their coloration (being housed with puffers could defiantly be causing stress).

it may have just molted..
do you see any exoskeletal material in the tank?
See if it darkens up ...

it in a container for photo only i returned her after the pics, the tank is full of them the puffers don't bother them they are actually scared of them the shrimp bounce of off them and they run,.. but this one is only half red and half white to the naked eye you can't see the spots on the tail, just when the carmera get in close you can see it..the gravel is natural brown, river rock,..

Is there a chance she's always been like this? It could be just a genetic variation/defect. I actually find the red front, clear back pretty attractive.

am surprised to hear that the puffer is so docile. had a puffer once who destroyed everyone in the tank. I think its a risk to keep the shrimp there

i had 4 in there and theyv'e been there for over a year,..first tried out with ghosts and they never toughed them, then i was stuck with them,.. so moved in cherries been there just fine.. puffs are all females, the male passed away before i put cherries in there but he didn't touch the ghosts,... i think if they have enough room they don't mind..
