the seeds aren't BAD, they just don't typically get eaten so they float around the tank. I typically will cut a round and sink it with a chip clip. Whatever isn't gone in about 12 hours I remove. No parboiling, special treatment needed. Although I do remove the seeds.

Wouldn't oranges throw off the ph with them being acidic? What about the juice in them?

They're acidic because they contain citric acid. PH in water is the negative log of the H30+ in the water.

In a volume of water most of the molecules are H20. However, there is some concentration of H3O+ and OH-. Usually this concentration is very small, 10^(-#) (aka .00000000000000#). As you have probably learned in math, the log of 10 is one, and they decided to add on a negative sign or the PH would always be negative and suck to write. They take the log of the amount because it's a nice shorthand way to write it, among other things. Also some convenience in calculation. Don't know for sure.
The equation is
PH= - log[10^(whatever concentration of H30 ions)]

Oh okay. I only started atoms and molecules in science 2 weeks ago. (8th grade)

Well, you learn that in high school/college, you don't learn the math til algebra two I think, lol.
