just found this on a snail site!!!!
what do you snail lovers think???

Reproduction:

-Apple snails are hermaphroditic, which means they can be both a male and a female, but they can only be one sex at a time. Therefore it takes two to get fertile eggs.

-Apple snails are mature after they reach 1 inch in diameter.

-The eggs are deposited above the waterline in clutches containing 100's of eggs.

-Females will lay infertile eggs and can also store sperm for months, so you won't know unless you let them hatch.

-Hatching takes from 2 to 4 weeks and the eggs must be kept in a humid environment to keep them moist, but not wet, as the baby snails will drown.

-If you don't want little snails you can either keep only one snail, or scrape the eggs off the tank and throw them out.

-Even if you think you have two snails of the same sex it is not a guarantee, as they will alter sexes occasionally.

I have always heard/read differently about the sexing. I havent' noticed and gender switching in my breeding snails (and I keep a pretty close eye on them). The males have stayed all male and the females have all stayed female. What site was that from bullitt? I am interested to hear if there is more information backing that up. The rest of the information sounds consistent with what I have read/experienced/etc.
