So, this is good and off topic, but I've been falling in love with playing the drums in Rock Band. I'm awfully keen on the idea of getting a real set. Unfortunately I'm most likely rather apartment bound for the next few years so an acoustic set is probably out (unless there's some great silencers out there) and electronic sets seem to start at $500 for the most basic. Since it may very well turn out that while I like Rock Band drumming, I really don't have much of an attraction to real drumming, I'm not so keen on dropping $500 on something that I might need to turn around and try to sell on Craigslist for $50.

Any clever ideas, or good drum forums that anyone might be able to point me towards?

I don't know man. My wife plays the drums and has one of those electronic drum sets as well. I could ask her if she knows of any good alternatives and any sites.

There was on ebay last summer a guy selling Midi drum sets for $150.
they were electronic, but had drum pads like real electronic drums..only catch is that you need to plug the drums processot into a computer...
I almost bought a set!! Might have to look for them again.

How is it different? I mean, I'm sure there's a difference (especially from an acoustic set) but I'm curious. I used to play cello and puttered with a bass guitar a little so I understand the difference between the GH guitar and a real one. The only difference I see in the drums (if you stick to electric) is having a different configuration (and number of pads... RB will 'reassign' pads to new drums as needed), not having pleasantly color coded music to read, and needing to be able to keep a beat on your own or with a metronome. ...not that I'm trying to suggest that those aren't significant differences, I'd just like to know where yer coming from.

Oh, I forgot to add. Best Buy has that ION set you saw on eBay, but it comes with a brain as well, for $230.
