I recently built this background and now want to improve it a little bit.
I was thinking about adding some moss in the spaces between the "stones". I think it would look pretty cool if these were filled with some lush green moss.

One way to do it would be thin strips of screen mesh, sort of like a moss wall, but I wouldnt know how to attach it without piercing through the background. it is sealed with fiberglass resin so i would rather leave it intact.

another way would be to use rope and braid it with some moss in between. I read that some people make these rope ladders for their crabs and whatnot. but then again I am not sure how I would attach it to the wall.

i am attaching the picture of the background so you know what I am talking about.

please let me know what you think about that.

The mesh sounds like a good idea. I'm sure you can find a way to attach it without piercing the wall. Here's an idea (I don't know if it will work, but it makes sense to me): take two lengths of airline tubing as long as the piece of mesh; split each one all the way along its length. Insert the edge of the mesh into the split tube, maybe adding some silicone to keep it on; repeat along other side. Now you can silicone the tubes to the background. This way you avoid the hassle of trying to silicone mesh directly to the background, which never seems to work.

that sounds pretty good Noto, but if I ever decided to change the look again or if the moss didnt work out then I would be stuck with the tube or at least silicone in those spaces.
why do I have to sit here and come up with more crap to do is beyond me. :wall:

I also think the mesh is a good idea. What if you sort of rolled enough so you could "smash" it into the crevices? Just roll up the excess and then add the moss to the 'out side' layer. In theory I think it works rather nicely. :)

Squares of embroidery mat, curved and friction fit into the cracks.
