I was scraping my tank's walls to remove the thousands of stoney worms that love to grow on them and obstruct my view, when I sheared off a HUGE amount of green hair algae. I was surprised to find that much algae, as it was all tucked away into a corner where I couldn't see it. Anyway, I was able to pull most of it out of the water column, but quite a bit of it landed around the tank and got stuck in some of the filter's water intakes. My hermits are slowly consuming most of this leftover mess, but my concern is what will happen to all of this algae over time. Will it begin to rot, and cause an ammonia spike?
