Can Pond snails grow past egg laying stage?

I don't mind the idea of Pond Snails in my tank as they can be beneficial. I was reading online that they have a breeding stage before maturity where they can lay 50-100 eggs. I plan to "raise" two of the snails in a "controlled" enviorment until they are past this stage and then re introduce them into the tank.

So I guess what my question is... Is this a silly idea? Do snails really every get past reproducing?

I still plan to study the snails in the controlled setting just to learn more about them. I think its more interesting then just killing them ;).

I raise my pond snails for food for my puffers so I have no idea, I want them to breed like crazy but they sure do!

I bred them for my puffers too and they just grow like crazy. You'll notice a lot of gel like sacks with white dots in them all over your tank. I am pretty sure it would be almost impossible to tell when your pond snails are done reproducing. The numbers will continue to grow and you'll soon lose track.
