Everyone tired of getting hit with fees for paypal transactions? New player in town. I read about this on another forum (read that post here (http://www.turtleforum.com/forum/upload/index.php?showtopic=90743&hl=)). It sounds like it'll make a pretty good alternative, and they have some pretty good incentives for signing up/referrals (like they'll give you 25 bucks)

Site: www.revolutionmoney.com

And check out the people running the company...I tend to think these guys know what they're doing.

http://www.revolutionmoney.com/about_revolution_money.aspx

Anyway, just a tip for anyone interested in checking it out. I haven't signed up yet (I'm on a work network) but will be soon. Check it out.

I shop a lot on buy.com, using google checkout will usually give you a pretty good deal on your first purchase...

A big difference, from what i can see, is that you dont have to be a US citizen with Paypal, where as this, you do....I may of missed something that says otherwise, but, could not see anything which is for UK citizens, for example....

What i do think is good is more companies emerging on the market to compete against Paypal....

Right, its relatively new, and so far only available to the US. It will only be a matter of time before it goes global I'm sure, if it works here.

Can we please ensure that this is not used throughout the forum in posts and signatures as this is effectivly spam advertising as per the Terms of Service (http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106848) (TOS) we all agreed upon when joining Aquaria Central. Concerning this issue, please remember that text in posts and / or signatures like "Join Us/Me here" and "Come and visit ...... " et cetra are not to be used. If you require something such as a link to an external source, then it does need to be cleared via the site admin if its not just linking to an info source / webpage but requires the member to sign up to use a service or source, as again, this is classed as spam.

If you want to use this as a method of payment when creating a thread in the classifieds, then simply add a text based link, not picture, in the initial post in the classifieds section please.

Please keep discussion of this subject to this thread...

Thanks for your co-operation on this..

My friend and I are doing research on this site. There seems to be many Betta issues on this in early Febuary or late January. It seems to be fixed now and it is legit but has anyone had any troubles with this program? Has anyone actually used it to complete a transaction or did everyone just take the $25 and run?

I'm going to try it out, I have been very unhappy with PayPal lately. And once I sell things on E-Place and pay their fees and then PPs fees, then pay shipping I'm just not making anything off my sales. The original point of it all was to get rid of unwanted items and make a little bank, but it has become nothing more than a pit.

I agree, and when you incorporate the listing fees, PayPal fees, Shipping materials, tracking number, and shipping into the actual shipping cost shipping a small item is 10-15 and shipping a good sized items is 15-20. When you enter that amount buyers get angry with you and Ebay somtimes takes it off saying your shipping gouging.

I sold a brand new Aqueon 200 filter for only 5.50 and 10 bucks shipping. I also had to ship a book through half.com. All said and done the two things cost $20 for materials and shipping costs. Half.com only gives you around $4 so I basically gave the filter away for free! Grrr. I shoulda offered it to someone here if I would have known that would have happened = /

So does the free $25 still happen if you sign up today? I saw in a post by Mgamer that you can sign up and get $25 free, even though I read that if you don't do it by May 14th, you don't get any money.

to verify that you are a US citizen. :)

That does not answer the question of "why"....Paypal does not ask you for your SSN, so, why do these need too??

Its like a site asking UK members to provide their National Insurance number...you just dont give out this info on a web site....

because an SSN, short of a certified birth certificate, is a surefire way to verify USA citizenship.

paypal doesn't need this, because they don't require you to be a citizen of any one country.. theyre worldwide.

i haven't, yet, because i want to see JUST how secure this site is. i forsee a HUGE identity compromise happening, and this site being at the center of it.

Do you really think that SSN are kept secret? They are public record...anyone could get it at a small fee... Plus this is an actual bank account, not a transfering money service.

https://www.revolutionmoney.com/about_revolution_money.aspx

it's a money exchange service. you can keep money in it, yes, but you can do the same thing with paypal. paypal offers the same type of ATM card and credit card, etc. :)

They are two different companies, they do things differently. If you are iffy about giving your information out, then don't sign up, easy as that.

since its more like a bank. banks here have to get the ssn. paypal also asked for my ssn since i have busniess and earning interests.

and you guys seriously just give this info out on the web??
no but i did take a couple hours to read up. its in their best interest to keep the data safe. there is already 100 million of venture capitalist money into the company. something like data leak and poof say good bye to the 100 million. its in their best interest. just like anything if you dont feel safe then dont do it.

sadly from what i can tell they dont have the atm card which is nice with paypal but you have to have a business account with paypal to get one i think.

I know they are coming out with a credit card here sometime soon, and it is more like a bank account than a money transfering service. Hence SSN;) Like MG said.
