when i was misting off my box turtles one of my females layed and egg....... WITH NO SHELL. im mad because i was right ther and i could have put it somewher safe if it wasnt just a blob of goop, but im kinda happy just because she did lay one, maybe she could lay more. but on the other hand im kinda scared cause what if she has a problem or is sick. i need advice on what do do. wait for more, give up, or take her to the vet.

Are you supplementing her diet with extra Calcium? I had a bird who died in january because of calcium deprevation and her last batch of eggs where very soft and broke in the nest. If you aren't giving her extra calcium, then that's probably why she layed a shell-less egg.

Stupid question, but was she mated? if not, most likely what she passed was an infertile ovum (I think that's the term) sometimes called sluggs in the hobby. It was not fertilized and never developed into an egg. It is also possible that it was an infertile egg. Infertile eggs are often much softer and "gooier" than fertile eggs although they are still usually enacased in some sort of shell. Reptiles will sometimes pass infertile eggs a day or so before the fertile ones. If you are expecting fertile eggs (eg: she was mated) then the good eggs may still be coming. Just make sure she has a deep box of damp sand or vermiculite for her to lay them in.

If you want to PM or email with any details I will try to help out if I can. I've never bred box turtles but I am waiting for one of my snakes to finish laying her eggs as I am typing this.

I agree I don't think there is really anything to worry about. My one female EBT laid an infertile pair this spring when she came out of hibernation. That is odd though that it didn't have a shell.
