help! help! help! cloudy water

:wall: we have a 500litr salt water tank which is home to bob our porcupine puffer and our two loin fish fred&wilma it is coming up on a year old from day one there has always been a cloudy white haze in the water we do frequent water changes of 25% our salt levels and nitrate/nitrite levels are ok we have spoken to different aquarium shop keepers who have not been able to help we have an EHEIM proffesional filter system we added another power head which made it worse (this was the filter that was recommended with the size of tank we have) we also have been using carbon and changing regulary and fine filter meches please please can anyone help as i do not know what else to try :wall: :headbang2: :wall:

Do you run a skimmer? how often do you change the filter media on the filter? Do you use any additives in the tank?

we haven't ran a skimmer or changed the filter media or used additives could that be the cause???

I think it could be time for a media change.....Do it sponge by sponge, not all in one go as this will give time to allow the bacteria to colonise the newly added sponge...Skimming may also help here...

Cloudy water is also an indicator of possible algae bloom. Could possibly be that the filter hasn't enough beneficial bacteria and has become a nitrate factory.

thank you will check my nitrate level again if it is high will a partial water change be enough to sort the algae problem new filter media and a skimmer coming tonight.

Water changes are always a good step forward when takling algae, however, this does depend on the type of algae out break it is. Some types of algae, like cyano (red tide), will need additional measures like phosphate removal media, more flow etc etc....

Edit**** What type of skimmer are you getting?

the skimmer is an instant ocean skimpro 400??? i think my other half is bringing it in shortly so will do water change attach new media and skimmer hopefully this will help thanks again. suggestions always welcome...
