Well as some of you know I have six blues that I picked up in March from a friend who went down and imported about 100 blues direct from a breeder South America. I have decided to attempt to breed them with some regulars and then cross breed and so on yada yada you know the rest.

Well of the six blues that I have four have now formed a couple with my regular JD's. Of the four couples the one with my big nasty male has started to make a nest with one of my blue females. He is now about 7 3/4 inches and she's a healthy 4 to 4.5 inches. They are both in full breeding colors and have started to guard the cave quite fercely.

I snapped these quickly last night so they aren't the greatest quailty but just figured I would share.

[EDIT] Sorry the Sob's at fotki.com aren't letting me link the bloody photos.

They are the ones marked new on page one .

Just curious, do you think you will/would have better success breeding blue male X regular female or regular male X blue female?

I'm just guessing that the blue male X regular female would stand a better chance of more fertalized eggs and less aggression.

I always assumed before starting this that the former would be the best bet.

I have found though the latter to be working out better. I find it very odd. Especially with my big bad regular male who has killed quite a few mates. He is showing no aggression at all to either of the females that I have in with him. I have bred him many many times and his behaviour this time is odd. Very docile. Almost like he knows that she seems much less hardy. I don't get it.

I had put up a breeding barrier with holes for the female to get through thinking that if it got rough they could easily get back to safety. Not even once have they left the males side. He has chosen which of the two he wanted. Usually in the past he would kill the other one. Again not this time.

The blue males have been getting breeding color quite a bit. (almost solid black) So has their regular mates. It will be very intense for a couple of days. Then the blue male seems to lose interest in the female and leaves the nest. Only to come back the next day and start over again. This is also very odd behaviour
