Are amano shirmp the best hair algae removers? What is their life span? Can they be mixed with other shirmp?

amanos can be mixed with all other dwarf shrimp as amanos do not breed in freshwater. I don't know how their tastes run for hair algae.

To be honest, the best method I've found for controlling algae is to scrape it and figure out why it's running rampant. Too much light? Too few plants? Too low of light intensity? Too little nutrients? Too many nutrients?

I'm not totally looking for a shrimp to clean my tank but i would like to place one in my tank that would have some natural food sources. My girlfriend also loves to watch shrimp.

Working on ideas to stock it

Amanos are AMAZING. I have a tank that was cycling and started to grow green hair algae on my rocks and substrate. A TON of it on my rocks. I added 9 amanos and overnight, nearly all the fuzz on my rocks were gone. Substrate was cleaned as well. Not 100% of the algae was cleaned off but a majority of it was eaten up over one day.
9 amano shrimp in a 40G breeder tank.

They're amazing, now I know why Mr. Amano uses them! I highly suggest in getting amano shrimp if you're looking into algae eaters. 2 will be enough for a 10G. 4 if you have a ton of it. 2 if there's only a little.

I had amanos and they never ate my hair algae. I definately know that SAE's love to munch on hair algae. They got rid of all of it in my tank.

Amanos do a great job in my 55. All the hair algae is mowed down to a nice short length.

Q

Do the Amanos eat other kinds of algae as well? I've been battling BBA...the growth is slowing but still requires scraping off twice a week.
