I brought a pair of kuhlis home about 3 months ago and didn't see them often but they would always come out at feeding time (about first light) but I have not seen them in about a month now. I have pulled the driftwood and checked carefully and just cannot find a sign of them anywhere. Any ideas???
I currently have several plattys and a black shark in the tank.

They are in the gravel or in a decoration.

i agree. if you have taken any ornaments out around the time of their disappearance they may have been in there. i have 16 kuhli's in my 30g and rarely see most of them. 3 are out quite often. others come out sometimes but there are 5 or 6 i don't think i ever see.

also not sure what a black shark is but perhaps he thought they looked like lunch.

Doubt the shark is quick enough to catch and eat a kuhli......LOL

Khulis usually hide. And they hide ANYWHERE. If they MIGHT be able to fit, they probably went there.

The sig labelled a "red-tailed black shark", not the actual "black shark" that grows to 2 feet. It is fine with kuhli loaches.

How many times you see them a day also depends on how many hiding places you have. Ironically, (or is it Paradoxically?) the more hiding places you have, the more you see your Kuhlis out and about.

Thanks guys. My substrate is about 3 inches thick so they are probably down there somewhere. The only decorations I have are two pieces of driftwood and alot of plants.

Umm yeah. I was in a hurry. It is in fact a red tailed black shark.

hehe.. i had a similar experience recently... My 75gallon used to be a planted amazon tank, and i recently swapped it ALL out, and made the 75 into an oscar tank...well, i guess i missed one of the kuhliis in the move... 8 months later, oscars are getting quite big.. and my gf says one day "look, what's that eel thing!?" i was like OMG it's ALIVE! the oscars don't even look twice at it anymore.. so yes, i have 2 10" oscars and a kuhlii loach in the same tank. and they all get along. ;)
