When you are topping off your tanks with freshwater, always be careful of what you are doing. For example, don't pour in the top off water from a significant height above the fish tank. Why, you may ask. The answer is simple. Because pouring creates a splash. That splash can then go into your eye. No harm done, right? WRONG!
It turns out that there are a whole host of bacterial bad guys in your tank's water (especialy during a fishless cycle) and these bacteria will breed just fine in the saline environment found in your eyes, leading to massive infections, styes, and all around unpleasantness.
Don't find out for yourself! Heed my warning! Keep tank water out of your eyes! The results of doing otherwise suck...
