I here this works great for nitrate control. Should I buy some are is this just a band-aid product?
That depends... Do you know why you are having nitrate problems?
Is there nitrate in your source water?
Are you overfeeding?
Is your tank overstocked?
Are you running a protein skimmer? If so, is it skimming well for you?
IMO, I don't feel that nitrate (or phosphate) removing media is something to heavily rely on for the long term. The repeated cost of buying that media frequently can be wasteful compared to a more permanent solution to the problem, be it an equipment upgrade if something like a protein skimmer is inadequate, or even something far more simple, like adjusting feeding habits.
