The Betta Palace is coming up on two months old, so I thought I'd post a photo update. (The full gallery is linked in my .sig.) I've been really pleased with how things have gone so far: a few mistakes (causing a mini-cycle by changing too much media at once; making Rocky constipated), but His Bettaness is a happy, healthy fish and the plants are doing better than I've ever had plants do before. Algae is getting to be a problem, but, so far, I've mostly controlled it. Rocky has no tankmates yet, but I'm currently deciding between Ghost Shrimp or four small cories. Anyway, on to the pictures:
The first is a full tank shot from March 15th, to illustrate where things started.
Next are two shots of what I call Bacopa Gardens. I was surprised when shoots started appearing from the substrate. And, in the next shot, you can see that they've grown so much that they're breaking the surface.
After that is the Wisteria Jungle. Again, I was pleased to find new growth coming up from the gravel. Right now, it looks almost like a ground cover.
Then, of course, is the requisite shot of Rocky, himself. It's better than the last one I took, and I think gives you a good look at the handsome little guy. You can see the thread algae in the background. A lot of that was removed the next day: a toothbrush is pretty good for this.
And, finally, the latest full-tank shot, taken last Saturday. As you can see, the plants have grown quite a bit and really need a trimming. If only I had my next tank up so the clippings wouldn't go to waste! :irked:
BTW, if anyone looking at this has a good suggestion for a plant for the middle background, I'd love to fill in that gap between the bacopa and the wisteria (though I suppose I could put a clipping there). That's right where the outflow from the filter hits, and I'm not sure what would work well there.
Thanks for looking!
