Hi All
I m setting up my new 75 gal and the overflow box is LOUD! I know this is a common problem with different solutions. My flow rate is 300g/hr through a 1 inch stem pipe

What solution have you used to help quite the stem pipe gurgling noise from an over-flow box? How well did they work over time?

I have added a valve on the drain line and that seems well, but of course don’t want to choke off flow too much, have any of you done this before and how is it working? Any other suggestion?

Much Thanks

i used 2 large square sponges and tucked it betweet the outspout and the overflow. that is where most of my noise came from.........it works and it is black sponge so it is not too noticable and also it acts as a filter to collects some larger debris........hope this helps.

...sorry for leaving that out...we made our own standpipe like the durso...however i was having more noise from water trickling down the overflow...hence sponges....sorry

we have dursos on both our tanks, hubby made them, it was very easy and it made a HUGE difference and the tanks are no longer annoying. Love it!

Made the Hofer Gurgle Buster, took a few tries to get the hieght, holes and flow rate that worked best, but now it's great! Check it out: http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/HGB_construction.html

Raising the standpipe above the static water surface in the sump, capping the standpipe and drilling a small hole in the cap works also.
