What all around general cure med should a discus keeper have? Should I not use all in one treatments, such as Lifeguard? I was told Gel Tek Ultra cure px is good for worms and internal flagellates. I was also told these are good.
Furan 2 for external bacterias
Maracyn 2 or kanamycin sulfate for internal bacterias/systemics
FMG (Formalin +malachite green) or formalin for external parasites
Levamisole for worms
praziquantel for flukes and tapeworms
Metronidazole for internal flagellated protozoans.

Best all around cure is a cheap microscope, somerthing that will magnify 800x(ebay $20.).Once you figure out the bug it will be easy to take care of.
Tricky to learn how to use it properly.Still trying to get more experience with the microscope myself but best long term plan.

There is no "all around, general cure" for any fish. Some ailments are bacterial, some are viral, some are parasitic, some are fungal.....no med cocktail available that would treat all types of ailments at once! Those meds you have listed are all good for certain ailments. At a minimum I would keep on hand FMG, Maracyn 1 & 2, and Levamisole as well as Epsom Salts. At least that way you are ready in an emergency for common fluke outbreaks, some bacterial infections, worms and constipation. One med I like is Jungle Parasite Clear, which contains praziquantel, metronidazole, and acriflavine and does not affect your biological filter.

Yeah wow good posts all around.
I keep metro and fenbendazole laced foods, Prazi, furan 2, and salt.
I have my own microscope which I am fitting with a digital camera to show pics of my fish whatever.
I also have a uv sterilizer that I run every once and a while in case of illness.
