...what does this mean?

Patriot has been getting two minutes' worth of Betta bites over the course of a day...one every five or six seconds...these are the Wardley Betta Food floating pellets...but today I fed him in one sitting, and, just as I was about to give him the last one, four suddenly started floating in the tank...am I overfeeding, or does he need a little bit meted out over the entirety of one day?

I don't think he is sick...he's constantly swimming through his 2.5 gallon tank and is still working on a bubblenest.

Try feeding a bit less. If the bites are still firm, and not water logged, they can bring air into the gut, and this isn't a good thing. Soak them in a cup of water for a minute or so, then add them to the tank. If he's not keeping them down, it probably means he has a full tummy and is eating out of reflex.

Okay, gotcha...and I'll be soaking the bites for him next time...it seems as though he might have some problems with that if he expelled so many indigested ones when one more was dropped in...should I give him a starve day tomorrow and then resume periodic feedings (30 seconds per feeding) on Friday? He seemed to be doing okay on the 30s/feeding regimen...and I could cut those back to three a day.

I honestly feed my tanks every other day, just once. I would cut back to feeding just once a day, and see how he responds.

Okay, I trust you on that!!!
