Hello again,
Thanks for all the advice I've received in the past. I am learning more and more about fish and aquariums everyday.
I'd like to quickly share a few things i've found out.
1). Changing the salinity of your water too quickly will cause your tank to re-cycle.
2). Changing the salinity of water cure's most fish diseases far better then any medicine does. I don't think i've ever really saved a sick fish with medicine, but I can say i've cured a few by giving them a freshwater bath.
Anyways my tank has been running for a couple months now, I change 8 - 12 % of the water on a weekly basis, and algae is becomming more and more annoying. I am currently trying out some mangroves to see if I can reduce the aglae problem.
However this week i've noticed a big problem with the Nitrite. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas of what could cause the nitrite in the system to suddenly crash? I have essentially no ammonia but the nitrite is at very dangerous levels. My current solution is replacing the crappy filter on my tank that it came with, and getting a marinland penguin filter with a biowheel which supposedly is much better. I am also changing a lot of the water every 2nd day. Hopefully my new filter will come within the next few days but i'd like to know what I could of potentially done to cause the nitrite to crash. The nitrite had gotten to approximately 1.6 mg/L
Any thoughts or suggestions would be highly appreicated.
