just wanted to share a pic of my fuge and ask what kind of critter might go well in here...

i was thinking an urchin could be cool? there is a large piece of LR in there but you can hardly see it through all the macro. the glass is pretty covered in spirorbid worms, q-tip sponges and pods. there are so many worms and micro stars in there it is amazing. all that i've put in there is 6 medium nassarius snails (the black ones) that are thriving. if i put in an urchin would it just keep my macro trimmed or would it mow it down altogether? i like my macro, it keeps my nitrates at 0... im not against putting a fish in there but am not sure i'd ever see it!

here's a pic of the sump so you can get an idea of the size of the fuge, the sump is a 40B. i should also say it's under the cabinet so you can't see the whole left side of the tank. thanks for any ideas!

Salty....great question. If you are looking for pods to keep growing then I wouldn't add anything more than snails. I keep reminding myself that if I add predators then I will drop the pod population. Right now in my fuge I only have the small brittle stars that grow on their own and one nerite snail. Lots of bristle worms starting.

I have a tuxedo urchin (my fav) and it will mo down the macro. IME.

what about some little shrimp? at my lfs in the tank where they keep the macro they have a billion peppermint/camel shrimp in there, and they look pretty cool.

I have to agree with Reefscape (as much as it kills me):grinyes: Apart from anything that finds it's own way down there (but soon gets put back) I leave mine as is. I think I still have one hermit in there but that's about it. I prefer to leave it "unstirred" so that the benficial "buggy things" (new scientific word for you all!) can do their job. I just pull out any macro after a while, shake it in the main tank and dispose of it!

:banher:

ok sounds good. how long should i let the macro stay in there before removing it - how long does it stay "good"?

Just keep trimming it back Salty....and pass on the snippets to other reefers near to you or post it to people....

go go go seahorse :)

Be sure to post your excess cheato in the "ad" section...many will want to order from you! Me included.
