2.....what is a good plant that doesnt out grow the tank in a month!!! the above mentioned plant never stops growing....

3.....what type of substrate is good? i seen this stuff at my LFS for planted tanks but its $32.45 for a 20lbs bag.....black real fine gravel looking stuff packed in water....

1- Could possibly be anacharis

2- All depends on your lighting.. but for some slow growing plants you can go for java ferns, mosses, crypts.

3- Any substrate is fine for a planted tank. You can go for regular cheap gravel or get fancy and go for products such as eco-complete, flourite and others

4- You dont have to have co2 for plants but it wont hurt. It all depends on your lighting (how many watts it is)

that would be the plants i have.....started off with a stalk about 2in long 6 onths ago....and im now giving it away by the bag load and putting it in different tanks to knock it down some!!!!!!

all my tanks have regular gravel in them so its good news i dont need to change anything......

as far as lighting.....they all have the regular flourecent lights from walmart in them.....minus the 10g breeding tank has 2 flour. plant bulbs....

if you really want to have a great variety of plants to grow then try and keep your wattage to about 2+ watts per gallon.

That plant is a week, will grow in any condition lol Thats probably the only plant i had ever threw in the trash..

If you have a mature tank then that substrate is just as good as any fancy one. The fancy substrates are good for tanks that are just starting out and need the necessary element boost for growth.

yeah my 55g is a mature tank but the 10g breeder hasnt been setup up long...

i would use the 55g to grow them out i guess untill the other tanks get ready for them....

im planning on planting my 75g once im finished with the restoration on it....

You sound like me a month ago!! I knew very little other than I wanted plants in my tank lol. Here's the link to where I learned what little I know now:

http://www.aquaticplantcentral.com/forumapc/new-planted-aquariums/51398-getting-frustrated-hello.html

A lot of knowledgeable people over there (many of the same people as here!), and they can fix you up with anything in the world you need to know about planted tanks.

Hope that helps!
