First one - my husband surprised me with a sun coral today! It had been on my wishlist for Mother's Day, but I let him off the hook last weekend because he bought me a MH bulb that cost a freakin $104. So he turns up today with a Sun Coral! I haven't been able to pull myself away from the tank all day. I spent from about 3 when he got home with it till about 7 acclimating it, then feeding it in the bag, then finally moving it into the tank. I have sand sifters, so of course I can't put it at the bottom of the tank, but I put it in the middle of the tank, so it's kindof in between where the MHs light falls. It has already rewarded me with a beautiful display of open polyps! It's still wide open right now!

I also picked up a gorgeous little Pixy Hawkfish I've had my eye on for about 6 weeks. He's been in the tank at Petco for that long, so I figured he must be meant to be mine. He's fat and beautiful and friendly. I've been wanting a hawkfish for a while now and had planned on not getting one till I was ready for it to be the last fish introduced to the tank. He got bossed around a bit by the Diadema Pseudo, but he's settled in nicely now and eating and hopping about being cute.

Here's the pics!!!

Pretty suncoral! It looks very happy for a new coral.

As for the hawkfish, what a cute fatty! Are you sure the reason why he was left at the petstore wasn't because he kept eating his tankmates? xD Nice choice. You should definitely take a vid of him hopping around.

beautiful sun coral! i just purchased one about a week and a half ago. i was told that you need to keep them in a low-light area. is this true? i kind of have mine tucked under a rock. i heard this is because they don't have the symbiotic zooxanthellae in their tissue. i could be way wrong...but it'd be great to know since we both have one! the hawkfish is georgous too.

I read this http://www.melevsreef.com/suncoral.html article and it seems like it will be fine higher up in the tank, it just doesn't NEED to be. Mine has been in and out today around the times I'm feeding it and that article mentions how they can be trained to the times you feed and will open up at the same time every day!

I have mine high up so I can enjoy looking at it. Even the pink skeleton is pretty when it's closed and it adds a bright splash of color. Also, I can't keep things in the lower half of my tank because of my sand sifting gobies sprinkling sand on everything. Well, I have some things in the lower half, but I try to stick with things that don't seem to mind the sprinkling sand. My next tank will not have sand sifters! I want to be able to put some things on the bottom without worrying about them getting buried.
