Well, I got my 30L tank up and filled. I have pool filter sand substrate, a couple of "special" rocks and today I put in some water wisteria and some hornwort. My question is, should the hornwort be planted in the sand or floating? I have visited sites that suggest both! Also, I do not have a test kit at the moment (this tank took all my $$$) Will get a kit next payday; in the meantime can take samples to my LFS and hopefully can get it to cycle. Anyway, I have attached a pic of my tank (I hope!) and would love some feedback on arrangment and stocking plans. I plan on adding some caves for cories and gudgeons. I have a pengiun 200 biowheel filter and a stock light strip.....

Stocking plans for a lightly planted 30 gallon:

6 dwarf neon rainbows (Praecox)
9 neon tetras (have 6)
4 peppered cories (have 2)
2 peacock gudgeons

p.s. the tank is level, I just cannot see straight! LOL

Hornwort can be either planted or floating. If your lighting is on the low side, it may be happier floating, so it gets more light.

A nice start.

It is a perfect-a-strip lite, 40watts on a 30 gallon tank; not sure WPG as I suck at math!

ive never had luck keeping hornwort planted. it always rotted the stems on the bottom. as a floating plant though, lookout. ive pulled it out and tossed over half of it away because one strand would grow to like 6 feet long in like a month and a half. its crazy! great if you are trying to keep any kind of fry

Very nice set up. What are you planning on doing to get the tank to cycle? Are you planning a fishless cycle or a fishie cycle? Are you adding any ammonia to jump start the cycle at this time? What fish do you plan to keep?
