Hi there, just decided to finally join an Aquaria forum after being on forums for all my other hobbies for years. (MMA, Home Theater & Cars/Racing)
I've had tanks since I was 10, now in my mid 20's. I started with a 2ish Gallon Acrylic cube then got a 15 gallon (Both gone, forget where), then later on had a 55 gallon (Got broken), then had a couple of 10 gallons (No idea where they went), then a 29 gallon (Gave away), then got another 55 gallon (Sold to Mavisky on this forum), then got a 45 gallon Hex (Still have), and just picked up my biggest & best ever. A 75 Gallon, woo-hoo!
I have had lots of different FW species over the years. Never tried Saltwater nor have I ever had any luck with plants. Now I know it was because I never had enough light among other things.
As of now I have the 45 gallon hex, which according to the sticker on the bottom was built on 7/75. Yes 1975! It is HEAVY. The glass is REAL thick.
I got it for $80 with a lot of extras.
It doesn't look like this anymore, even lamer now actually. I am going to completely re-do it with some new substrate (Black bio-complete) and build a hood with proper lighting and plant it up real nice.
Here is my old 55 Gallon, I guess I liked it back then but now that I look back it was really boring. The new owner has it looking great. (Mavisky on the forums)
Then here is the new 75 Gallon.
I have big plans for it also so it's just a start so far. I just put a dark sheet behind it for now and will be getting a solid black back round this week. Only the 2 65w 10k lights on in the pic, also has 2 55w 6,500k lights for mid-day time.
Current Occupants
1 - Standard Pleco about 4" right now
1 - Chocolate Cichlid about 4" also
1 - Jewel Cichlid, about 2.5"
1 - Jack Dempsey about 4"
1 - Cory Cat 1" or so, he is getting friends soon no worries.
Everyone plays nice.
It came with a Rena Filstar XP2, 5 gallons of Black Bio Complete, Coralife 260 watt light (With 4 extra bulbs), Huge driftwood, and the stand. All for $226 bucks. I was very pleased.
I just added an all-glass lid, twin LED white night light, a few pieces of black slate, 300w Hydor inline heater, fixed stands for the light, Penn-Plax Cascade 600 Internal filter (It was from the 45hex so it helped cycle it quick, will get replaced with something else external), and some new vinyl tubing for the XP2.
It is going to get some plants, more driftwood, another canister filter to replace the Internal, a school of something that won't get eaten, and maybe a CO2 deal for the plants.
I am already itching for a BIG tank now too. I'll finish the 75 and re-do the 45hex before I do that though.
-Oh and sorry the photos suck. I am getting a new camera very soon. (Nikon D40)
Regards,
