I have an established 46g aquarium with three young angelfish. The tank is planted and has a large 24" piece of driftwood. Besides a few guppies there is a young striped raphael cat.
A friend of mine has two trinidad or common plecos that are at least 6 inches long each. She wants to find a good home for at least one of them if not both. The fish in question is currently living in a 30g tall tank. I don't have a pleco in any of my five aquariums. I prefer other fish and inverts as clean up crews.
I would like to take the fish from her, I don't mind adopting fish. I have a 6+ year old blue gourami that was taken in 2 years ago. But I'm uncertain of a pleco lol. I have the tank planted with some sword like plants (not sure of species yet, were starters from a friends tank) and red ludwigia and assorted other plants. Would a pleco trash the plants or are they slow moving enough to not cause too much harm.
I'm not worried about guppies dissapearing. My main concern is that my 46g is already plenty full. the angels are only about an inch and a half across the body but growing well. There are a maximum of 15 guppies, two of which are full grown. The only reason I'm considering the pleco is because of the large piece of wood which I know they need in diet. It currently doesnt have a wood source.
So opinions?? Do I dare take one of the plecos, or do I decline?
