Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to marine and still doing tons of research. I would like to start a SW tank and have read from many ppl on the forum that a RO/DI unit is needed for SW tanks. I want to start with LR/LS then slowly grow into reef keeping in the next 2-3 yrs. For now the equipment I have ordered are:

Tank - 50 G
Filter - Filstar xp3
40 Lbs of LR
40 Lbs of LS
150W Heater
Maxi Jet 1200
Hydor Koralia 2

What kind of RO/DI unit is best suited for soemone thats new to the SW hobby? Something that isnt too hard to use and wont break the bank. My budget for the unit would be from 0-175 dollars. Could you pls recommend a source (store/online retailer) and the unit you recommend?

Thanks.

In my opinion, yes, i feel they are needed unless you have tested your own water and know its free of nitrates, phosphates etc....

You want to shoot for something like a 50 - 100 gpd unit, like in the link below...

Operation wise, they all work on the same principle and connect in basically the same way when going for standard units...
