What are the opinions for the best lighting using t-12 bulbs? Ive always ran colormax bulbs but never really liked the pinkish tint it gives. Pics would be good if you have them. I know there are alot better lighting options other than the t-12's but not looking to upgrade just replace these bulbs.

This is for a FO tank no plants.

You can run T8s instead of T12s in the same setups, the T8s are thinner so not as much restrike...just an option, I'd do it if you are replacing the bulbs anyway. I don' know what color spectrum the old bulb has, but after a long time they do tend to turn a bit pinkish. I'd look for 6500K color temp, its a good neutral ground and looks good over most tanks, Lower numbers (soft white - bright white, 3000K-4500K or so) will tend to look more yellow, and if you go for up to 10,000K it will be very white.

So t-8's and t-12's fit the same socket.

If its a magnetic ballast it might not work, but usually the electronic ballasts are interchangeable.

Magnetic ballasts are very heavy, they pretty much feel like a solid block of metal...because thats basically what they are. Electronic ballasts are lighter, and generally run cooler. You could practically fry eggs on a large mag ballast. Also, there is usually a sticker on the ballast with a wiring diagram and such, and it usually specifies there.
