Is regular pvc cement and primer safe to use for sump and in tank plumbing?
I used it on my homemade overflow u-tube and the return line from my wet/dry filter and didn't kill anything. It seems to be safe from my experience....I was careful to let it cure for a good while first.

I used the same with my plumbing and I had a pro come do my hardplumbing so it would be absolutely correct. But I did let it cure a while as Robbie did.

Thanks guys. Is there a special way to cure it? Just leave it out to dry? On the brand that we sell at work it says drying time 24 to 48 hours. Which brings me to my next question, pvc or cpvc? All of the stuff that I see at the LFS is gray. The only thing that I can find is white or a yellow color. The white is schedule 40 and the yellowish is cvpc.

I just used the white pvc and the plain cement from Lowes. Mine cured for weeks because I was still setting up my tank, but I imagine a couple or three days should be fine.

Did you use the purple primer? Or did you just use the cleaner and glue?

Would running the pipes straight down from the overflow box to the bulkheads in the sump be ok? Or should they be at an angle?

I just did mine, I was stuck with waiting only an hour for a section to cure, but no fish died.
And yes, you have to use the primer.

:iagree:
Just make sure your happy with you setup befor you go ahead because if you change your mind you might have to replace the hole lot. Someone on one of these sites wished he had read some more befor he glued it all together because he found a better way to do it.

Well as I looked into it I found that it is cheaper to go the pvc route than doing the vinyl tubing. Even though in this hobby cheaper is never better. to do the pvc is over half as cheap. So hopefully I hit the nail on the head when I do it the first time round. So is running the overflow box bulkheads straight down into the sump ok? Or do they need to be run at an angle? Does anyone have a good diagram on plumbing one of these up? I will be using a dual 1" overflow and for the return pump and line i'm clueless as of right now. Trying to get the stand finished for the sump to go in. Will have to post some pics when it is all done.
