Hi, I just got some fry while I was gone and I have moved them to a small 2 gallon tank. I think they might have taken in some air since they are floating on the top and you can see air bubbles in them. I was just wondering if there was a way to get rid of the air or if they are just going to most likely die?

Well, I doubt you'll be able to get any to live from this "batch." The ones floating are dead, or dying and diseased. As sad as it is, you'll have to give up on these.

The male only let out these 10 I think and still probably has a few more in him. Ill have to change the set up of my nursery tank so they don't stay by the top so much. Im going to leave them in there a little bit more to see if anything happens.
If anyone knows a way to get the air out of them it would be helpful though.

Thanks for the quick response Amphiption.

You can buy a plastic breeding box they have lids that would keep them from going to the top next time . i just got one was 10 bux

is the air under their skin? if so it sounds like gas bubble disease and you can treat it with acetazolamide (diamox). i just did this to one of my horses and she's as good as new. i hope you can save your babies!!

The acetazolamide (Diamox) works fine on adults, but you won't be able to treat everything in time for the fry. They need to eat many times daily and will starve before they can be treated. I'd still have the drug on hand to help with the adults in case it ever happens, thoug.

the babies will not make it for sure if treated. also, you need to feed them rotifiers that have to float for the babies with the help of a bubbler of some kind, but with not too much flow. also, don't buy the box with lid because it won't work due to oxygen problems within the box. it's not easy to do and even if you try really hard, only few would make it anyway, so don't sweat it. if you do research, you'll see the structure the babies of sea horses have to be in to make sure they don't get air and/or don't float to the top, and things you put in there for them to hook onto.

Get a cleaner goby. It will be a little help in raising these fry disease free.
