I got a bamboo shrimp from Pacific Shrimps on Aquabid. He was a light brown when I opened the box but after about 12 hours in my tank, turned a brownish orange with a lighter stripe going down his back. He filters all day but when I put a pinch of first bites in the tank he started climbing and filtering furiously. My 22 year old son said "nice mom, an underwater roach, lovely". Oh well I think he is cool. How often should I feed him without risking a spike in the water. The tank is well planted, cycled, old but small.

i just bought 8 for my 125 gallon tank. i took a pipette and glued a few together to make a very long one. i feed them flakefood in water a few times a day. just a few flakes each time. whatever the bamboo shrimp miss my cherry shrimp and fish take care of. just feed many small amounts and he will be fine. i do love them. yesterday i saw one of my bigger ones pounce on a black molly that came too close. was fun to watch them actually defend themselves.

Filter feeding shrimp do best in a planted aquarium, that is well established. They also need a strong current in the tank. This is usually established with a powerhead, or two, creating a current for the shrimp to gather food. Their natural food are microbial critters, floating in the water column.

i dont feed mine any thing inpaticular they feed off the mico organisums (sp) in the water (well established).
yes when they get settled and happy they will turn more red.
although they dont have claws they will deffend them selves by jumping on fish, and is fun to watch.

heres a few pics of 1 of mine.

What great color! Mine turned orange but is back to brown with a cream color stripe. He fanned all day and about 30 minutes went under a piece of driftwood and is quiet. Maybe he is napping?

My current is so strong he has to hang on for dear life. He seems to love it.

Wow, yours is really red! My 2 look like wood with red "fans", and a beige stripe down their back. One usually stays hidden, the other will crawl on my finger.

my 2 stay on a rock under the fillter output hose, and dont feel threatend or hide when anything swims by them.

as i stated above, i dont feed mine anything different from my fish they are housed with. they feed mostly on the bacteria in the water. they will eat fish flakes if they get on there fans. mine tryed a frozen blood worm once and went crazy trying to get it back out of its mouth. it was so funny to watch.
