2 Firemouth cichlids
1 Tiger Pleco

All housed in a 37 Tall

I have a sandy substrate and plan to get three good sized rocks. I want to cover one side of each rock with silicone and dump it in sand so the one side is sanded. Then I am gonna buy fake plants and glue them (with silicone) on the sandy side of eac rock. The placement will prolly be one in each back corner and one up front in the center. Do you think this will provide enouch hiding/cover for these guys??? Thanks!

Might be a little behaviorally overstocked, but I'm not completely sure.

If you are using that tank as grow out tank, yes (if you have juvi firemouths right now). If you are planning to keep them there permanently, I will say no.

Firemouth gets to 6/7". So is pleco. If you happen to have 2 male firemouths and that they reach their size, you will have some trouble in your hand. Might wanna think about upgrading the tank to 55g.

37g tank is best for smaller cichlid (that doesn't reach to 6")...like Archocentrus species, Laetacara species, and a few other smaller cichlids.

Look around some more before you decide unless you do plan to upgrade the tank in the near future.

Near future for me is about 2 years, then I'll have 75 to 100 gal tank! Woo hoo!! I am just having a hard time coming up with good combos. I kinda like having just a couple of fish in the tank. You know, the main attraction ( medium sized cichlid) and a scavenger (pleco of some sort). I don't mind having a non cichlid tank, but the fish don't exhibit the same kind of personality. I would get apistos, but (1) my LFS's are too retarded to order me some and (2) the place (liveaquaria.com) doesn't give me a choice of species in the apistos. Its only variety. I had rams at one point and will never touch that fish again. Kribs are cool, only if you want breeding machines. I would like a cichlid that likes to reminain a singularity in the tank. Would a JD work? Or Texas cichlid? Please help me! I am going thru a "fish crisis"! :D

why dont you get one cichlid and then a small school of dithers like giant danios just to add some movement and then the pleco

Getting one cichlid is not a prob. Finding a suitable cichlid is the problem. I had danios and they are bizarre little fish. I just can't make up my mind is all. Spiral shell snails are the only things occupying the tank now.

Instead of danios, how about tetras?? Thanks!

How about a Rainbow cichlid, dithers, and a pleco???

Even the Meeki in the ACA shows are less than 6" total. Meeki are very unagressive. I don't think you will have any problems with your intended setup. In fact should be able to keep a group of Mollies in there to act as dithers and to add some activity.

You can also go for Salvini.

I think you will be just fine with your initial setup. Slight chance of problems if you have two males. 55 would be better, but your setup will work.

Silver already got a fish for the 37g tank. Silver got a 4" texas cichlid.

I wish you good luck on your new fish. Texas Cichlid is very entertaining and got great personality. I have 4 juvi herichthys carpinte 'escondido', cousin of texas cichlid. These 4 little buggers already showing aggression. There is always some action in the tank. They aren't shy. My youngest one already tried to attach the siphon.

I'm sure you will not be bored at all with your decision. :D

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone have a 6/7" firemouth? I would love to see pics. I've got mine in a 120G so I'm not concerned about size but if my firemouth got that big he would be absolutely gorgeous.

(Hoping, hoping, hoping :) )

Sorry, didn't scroll down to see Darkden772's post. Any pics of that fish??

Rare Cichlid was right. Today, there aren't many Firemouths get that big any more...if you've gotten the fish from LFS.
