I was reading on a website that too much high protein foods such as frozen brine or krill can cause bloat in most African cichlids? I have 8 different Malawi cichlids and I have been feeding them a mix of flakes and some frozen krill which they really seem to love but, I was wondering if there was any kind of veggies that they would like and just give them the frozen krill once or twice as a change from the cichlid flakes and pellets?? I didn't want to add some veggies that may cause the water chemestry to bounce out of whack or cloud up the water. any suggestions?????:idea::idea::idea:

any kind of veggies. peas, zucchini, spinach or dark green lettuce, green beans, corn kernels. just like with any other food, remove what they don't eat after an hour or so. the water's not going to go bad unless you let uneaten food rot in the tank.

Starve them for a whole day every week, this generally takes care of slight over feeding of fish and keeps them healthy, i dont feed my fish on sundays...

Swell !! I never thought about that! I just fed mine a few bits of raw spinach and the love it!!!! I put 1 good size leaf in and placed it between the glass and my magnet algae scrapper to hold it and the shredded it for about an hour or so when they seemed to be done I removed it!
I would advise you pick a good specialist cichlid pellet (New Life Spectrum Cichlid Formula is great) and feed that as a staple, supplementing with veggie as per wataugachickens post and the occasional spirulina tablet.
I wouldn't feed them krill.
If you're just feeding a 'standard' fish flake and some veg they may not be getting enough protein. Plus the Cichlid Pellets will do wonders for growth and colouration.

In addition to what's already been stated, it also depends on what type of lake malawi cichlids you have (a very diverse group of fish). Many are carnivores or omnivores which will benefit and thrive on high-protein diets such as krill which would otherwise lead to bloat in the herbivorous species
For example there'd be no no problems feeding malawi's such as dimidiochromis compressiceps and nimbochromis venustus frozen krill regularly. On the other hand, however, I'd be perfectly fine to NEVER feed frozen krill to lake malawi mbuna's such as pseudotropheus demasoni.
