i noticed at my LFS yesterday that they now carry frshwater stingrays...

anyone here have any? they are so cool looking.....

ok im over it!!! LOL

When I got back into fish, I was going to keep fw rays. I did some research and found that you need a pretty good size tank (my wife thinks that my 46 is enormous !), so I kind of decided against it. Still think they're cool. Have ever since I went scuba diving at Stingray City in Grand Cayman and the rays were as big as VWs ! It was awesome !!

the 2 they have are about the size of teacup saucers and are in a 65g tall tank.....

i watched them feed some frozen fish to them and they swam up to the top and turned upside down to get their food and then back down to eat....IT WAS SO COOL........LOL

they told me the ones they get i can keep in my 75g since they dont get very big,,,,,dont remember what they said they where but ill find out when i go back this weekend....

but at 142.95ea..........AINT HAPPENING!!!!!!

well, to put it bluntly, they're lying. teacup rays are nothing more than unidentified baby rays. none of them stay small enough to be kept in a 75. they're just trying to make a sale.

Those that you described are probably Motro or tea cup rays. THEY get huge and I wouldn't suggest them for a begginer.

i lived in grand cayman for a few years and it is safe to say that most fw stingrays dont get nearly that size. most get too big for your "standard" aquarium. they are very sensitive and need 84 degree water of pristine quality. they need peaceful tankmates that they cannot swallow too, and yeah the price is ridiculous, especially for the black ones.

like i said i dont plan on gettin one...........they are just cool....

and i was talking with the owner not just one of the lil helpers that he has...we where in the middle of prdering some salt supplies when he seen a girl trying to feed them....

he has a ray in his 300g show tank and has had it the 2 years ive lived here....just never sold them before....and it is only the size of a dinner plate...

the ones that he is trying to sell are a light greyish color with markings on their back....

you would need a species tank, with sand, and other special accomodations. and its gunna need to be huge. get a freshwater flounder

IM NOT GETTIN A RAY!!!! ok there.........

flounder........never seen anything other than these lil guys that have "whisker" type things around their body and are about the size of a quarter.....
