infection or tail growing back?

i had two rams in my tank recently and one of them happened to be more aggresive and bit my neon tetras, corys and the other ram. i gave away the agressive ram. however the damage was done and the fishes in my tank had nipped fins and tails. i thought it would be a good idea to let it heal naturally since i heard that fins and tails can grow back. however now there are white lines on the parts where they were being bitten. could it be that there is infection or is it the tail growing back?

Tough to say without seeing a picture, however when fins are damaged they often leave a scar on the spines after growing back or healing.
