OK, I have a female crowntail betta named Phillip. Anyways, she's really bloated, and I don't think it's dropsy. Her scales aren't pinecone-y and she doesnt seem to be having trouble swimming. Is she just like......full of eggs maybe? I dont know. I dont want her to die. I have never had a girl fish besides my one female guppy.
I suck at taking pictures of fish....
I'm 90% sure she's just full of eggs (dont know what the right term is) but I was wondering if anyone could show me a picture of one that is to compare it to so I'd be sure.

I know it sounds too obvious...but has she been overeating? Has anything changed in her tank in the past few days (adding fish, adding chemicals, etc)?

If she looks bloated, it is a possibility that she is constipated. Microwave a pea, cool it, remove the skin, and smoosh it up really well and feed a tiny bit to the fish. That sometimes help the digestive system work things out. if you are feeding floating foods, perhaps soak them in a cup of water before feeding the fish, so it absorbs enough water to not expand after swallowed.

:iagree:

The above are good suggestions. Bettas are prone to constipation. What are you feeding her? My betta, Rocky, recently suffered from it because I was too generous with the bloodworms. :wall: Making him fast for a couple of days (trust me, it won't hurt the fish) and feeding him bits of a nuked pea worked wonders. Now, every Wednesday night is the "Vegetarian Plate Special" at the Betta Palace. :thm:

BTW, forgive me, but I have to ask. Why is a female named "Phillip?"

Wondered the same thing XD

But yeah, do the pea thing (which has been mentioned alot already, lol) and i don't think bettas wouold lay eggs without a male unless they are hungry, which obviosly couldn't be it, if she is constipated :grinyes:
