Is a 50 watt heater too much for my 4 gallon?

Also, I am experiences 5 degree heat swings sometimes (82 swings to 87-88!)... what can I do to correct this?

You'd probably need a heater to correct that.

anonapersona recommended a certain heater in my "Bettas need heat!" thread. I'd recommend looking into buying that one.

Here's a link to that thread. The heater recommended is a 25W, but it works well for another poster in his 4 gallon.

I have a whisper 5-15 heater, but I'll look into the other one if this one is going to swing temperatures so much. Take it back to wally world :D

5-15 W? I think that OG said that such a small heater wouldn't be good for a tank as it's almost underpowered...

It's labeled for 5-15 gallon aquariums.. It's a 50w heater.... am I over heating? I was wondering if this may be causing the temperature flux... but that doesn't seem to make sence because it's slightly overrated for my tank, and therefore, should be able to keep it more stable better. :confused: What do you thing?

I think that it is probably not suitable for the tank. Whisper heaters have worked okay for me, but I had no other choice at those times and I bought them rated at 2.5 W/gallon for their tanks because I wanted to keep them in range. I don't know how well they work when they are overpowered for their tanks, nor do I wish to find out if there's a better product out there, like the Hagen. (I've never seen a Whisper rated better than a Hagen of the same power.)
