Is this lighting efficient for coral growth?

The package says so... (remember, i know close to nothing about coral or lighting.) Some sites online say so, some say NO. I bought this pretty cheap and I really would like to know if its good enough for corals or an anemone.

Normal Output fluorescents "might" sustain mushrooms (for a while, at least), but I'd say insufficient for most photosynthetic corals in most instances (though different corals have different lighting requirements).

Exactly...mushrooms and zoas might not die off right away, but it wouldn't be a long term solution.

Short answer......NO...definitely not for an anemone!

Please don't even consider a nem until you and your tank have about a years worth of experience and research. Some things like Mandarins and certain Anemones are just too cheap and it makes people think they might be easy to keep.............they are not, at all, easy to keep especially when new to the hobby.

what size tank do you have? and def flourecents not for an anemone..look into a T-5 fixture like Nova Extreme for a good price or a Power compact fixture like Coralife and only then get some corals mushrooms prob will be okay.with that lighting...but I am pretty sure you will want more than mushrooms
