I have had this frogspawn for about 6 months. The head closest in the photo has always been weak and the only time it looked normal was 5 months ago when I did a FW dip and it only lasted for a few days.

There are 3 heads. The weak one in the foreground, the middle with the "bubble" and the one that looks "normal" in the background.

My focus is on the SPS in my tank which dominates, but I'm curious about this bubble on this Frogspawn.

Anyone ever seen a bubble where a mouth should be on a frogspawn?

I have never heard of this. I have had mushrooms swell like balloons and then return to normal. But nothing like you are showing. BTW beautiful color in the frogspawn.

Could it be growing a new head?

Don't know. I didn't think Euphylia would split. I thought new heads would sprout near the base out of the calcerous branches. There are about 10 new heads growing out of the branching.

Could it be growing a new head?

whoah! i have never seen that before..my frogspawn started acting crazy when my salinity was to high 1.029 using a hydrometer..i since have bought a refractometer..it stayed tucked in for days and bleached..it is making a strong comeback, they are pretty hardy

Not sure on the bubble but Euphylia will split heads, my hammer, torch and frogspawn have all split heads

I've seen in a few times before, but it doesn't usually last long at all. It is just something wrong with the osmotic regulators. It usually goes away in a little bit of time. But if it doesnt, just like when you see these on a mushroom, if you just poke it with a pin, it'll be fine.
And I agree. I like the coloration on it.

I have seen many a frogspawn develop infections after something like this. Sometimes it goes away by itself, other times you may actually lose the "head."

Well, I have been seeing this bubble for about 4 months........should I stick it with a pin and pop it?

That is up to you. I have had bad experiences with lacerating euphylliid tissue in past on several occasions--a severe infection ensued. If you feel it is healthy otherwise and can heal properly, go for it. It may be something like a neoplasm, which isn't terribly uncommon. In such a case, lancing it may not help. Just weigh your options and pick one...

i've seen this many many times with my branching frogspawn - there is no problem! it's just growing and branching. i've gotten some seriously huge bubbles on mine when it's growing, they look weird but it's nothing to be concerned about :)
