Well I took the plunge again. I had a Crocea before and had it for a long time until I started moving things around in my 70. I just got an electric Crocea and it has adjusted very well. Likes the flow and the lighting. Doesn't hurt that he gets phyto to eat as well.

Nice Clam.

I got one about a month ago. He's only now stopped moving around the sand bad. I buried a piece of rubble under the sand for him to attach to and seems 100% happier.

Well I am not sure what happened but on the third day he just disolved. My water params are great, so I don't know what could have happened...maybe I should have put him in the sand and not on the LR. The LFS told my to put him up as high as possible for stronger lighting...so I did and that is what happened. More than the $79 down the drain, I would like to be able to keep clams and I am not sure why not.

This is frustrating.

actually, crocea do better on rocks from my understanding. Derasas prefer on the sand bed. even if it had not gotten enough light in the tank, a few days is not going to do one in. I'm inclined to say it had either a predator or some sort of disease or something. Post it up over at www.clamsdirect.com and someone might be able to help you there since they specialize in clams. Were you feeding it directly? THat can "suffocate" one. I haven't fed my derasa since i got it in September and it has grown in that time and is doing well under MH.

I'm also sorry to hear about the loss of the clam.
