View Full Version : New, bad photos of my tank

So.... after my Starry Night Reeds committed suicide I decided to change up my tank a bit. The original builder had left some tubing in the back. I connected this to my little pump and was surprised to see a pretty large water feature come spilling down the left side of my tank.

Now that I have let the waterfall run all day, I have noticed that the water creeps across the entire background... should I use silicone to make prevent this? Or should I be lazy like I would like (lazy as in not needing to mist so much) and let the water fall where it may along the eco-earth background. I would then simply let moss take over the wet portions (I am thinking of finding some.. what are they called, baby's tears? I also collected some local mosses from the forest last weekend. If they do well in quarantine for a month or so I will add at least one of them)

I think in the right corner I will try and get a neoregalia brom, I will continue to revive my dragonscale fern, and then keep researching plants and go from there...

Any comments/criticisms/ideas are appreciated.

what are those floating plants u have in there?

i think that it would be very cool to let the water run down the whole background... the only thing is: where is it leaking from? b/c depending on the situation how much water is getting back there, and what is securing it to the glass... you could encounter some problems. but again it depends.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say its leaking. Its more like I have too much water pressure for the waterfall. I am going to try turning the pump down a tad tonight. My only concern with turning my pump down is that it may allow an ugly film to form on top of the water.. I had problems with that in the past.

The great stuff is attached to silicone on my glass, so nothign should happen in regards to that.

The plants on top of the water are moneywort. The moss is all Java moss right now, but if my moss in quarantine does well it will be mosses native to the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Yeah, more branches may be kinda cool. I just don't know how to attach them since the GS is all settled(has been for 8months or so..)

No reptiles... I had my pair of starry night reeds for approx 18hrs until they killed themselves. I am planning on either acquiring another pair of Starry Nights or a pair of Clown Tree Frogs. The water is currently inhabited by a clown peckoltia, Malaysian trumpet snails, and two tiger shrimp. I will be adding more tiger shrimp soon and possibly pygmy corys again.

Progress photos on the 5th sounds good. Final... 27th of June? That gives us one full month for growth/final tinkering/etc.

Aight, I can start the thread on the evening of the 5th (for the progress report) when I get home from work if you'd like. However, if you would like to get your photo's on first feel free to start the thread.

Clown tree frogs need some kind of land. YOu need to offer some kind of actual land or you are going to end up with drowned frogs again. Even though they are called tree frogs does not mean they spend their entire life in tree.
They are not good swimmers

Well, I'm not getting the clowns. I am going to get another pair of Starry Nights. These will have been previously qt'd. Again though, I understand that bugs could get into my tank and be much harder to kill than in a more sterile/plain qt tank. However, this pair will be the only set of frogs in the tank and so I am not that concerned. When I decide to set up my 50gal and add frogs, that will be another story...

As far as land goes, yes, my tank is a bit sparse on it. However, In the pic you can't really tell that most of the background pretty sloped. There is really quite a bit more land than it looks in the photos.

In your experience Clowns have been somewhat terrestial? I am debating on what to put into the larger tank (I haven't even planned it out yet), and if the clowns would utilize the ground a bit they would be kinda cool..

My clowns in are in a small 20 gal long for the time being and yes they use every bit of the tank down at night you find them on thebottom stalkign crickets and climbing up vines.
In my experince the group that I have does use every inch of the tank.
